Handmade Blankets Everywhere

It’s been a busy month for blanket making.  I don’t know about you but I just love handmade blankets and these are no exception.

This Blanket Collection Pattern brings together the blocks featured in “All My Heart”, “Owl My Love” and “Snuggle-in-Swans” blankets.

Owl My Love

The patterns will enable you to work a sweet little baby blanket, in colours to suit a boy or a girl, using you’re your chosen combination of motifs – heart, owl or swan.

Snuggle In Swans

When worked, in DK yarn, the finished size of each pattern block is 18 x 18cm (7 x 7in); the join and border adds approximately 2.5cm (1in) to the overall size.

All My Heart
When worked in Aran/WW yarn, the finished size of each pattern block is 20 x 20cm (8 x 8in); the join and border adds approximately 5cm (2in) to the size.

As a reference, 6 blocks joined as in the example (3 patterned and 3 plain), will require 200g (400m) of main colour and 150g (300m) of contrasting colour.  Finished size in DK is approximately 60 x 42.5cm (24 x 17in) and in Aran/WW is 65 x 48cm (26 x 19in).

You will need chosen yarn, an appropriately sized hook, some oddments of black, white and a contrasting colour for eyes and beak (optional) and a needle for neatening ends.

Other yarns will work but, finished dimensions will vary.

You should aim for a gauge where 10 rows over 10sts (UK dc) produces a square.  Variations in this will produce larger or smaller squares and, in some cases, you will get a rectangular shape.  Providing the change is not too great, the finished look of the blanket will not be affected.

Crochet Newsboy Hat

PDF Crochet Pattern now available to buy!!

Crochet Newsboy Hat

This simple and quick-to-work crochet newsboy hat can be made in any size from micro preemie to adult.

An ideal stash buster, you can work it in any yarn you like.

Materials: You may use any yarn for this project, although thicker yarns are best kept for the larger sizes – a micro preemie hat is unlikely to work so well in super chunky!

Good combinations are DK with a 3.50mm hook, Aran (WW) with a 4.50mm hook and chunky (bulky) with a 5.50mm hook.

The largest size uses approximately 100-150g (230-345m) double knit (8 ply).

You will also need a hook (appropriate to chosen yarn), 2 buttons to trim the strap and a needle for neatening ends and stitching buttons on.

Crochet Owl Macrame Style

Inspired by the macramé owl I remember my mum making, this pattern will let you create a sweet little replica crochet owl.

It measures approximately 16” from the top of the hanging chain to the bottom of the tassels (about 9″ just the crochet owl).

You will need 35g DK (8ply) weight crochet cotton (~50m), 3.50mm hook, two 6” (15cm) twigs or wooden chopsticks trimmed to length, two safety eyes (buttons or beads), one stitch marker and a needle for neatening ends.

Update:  I am constantly in awe of the projects that people create over on Ravelry using this pattern.  I never dreamed it would be loved by so many.  I love the different yarns, shapes and sizes, every one of them is unique and delightful.  I’d love to see what you’ve done with it.  Please continue to upload them to Ravelry to share.  I promise I look at every single one ♥

Crochet Curling Leaves Candlewick Shawl

Curling Leaves Candlewick Shawl

Depending on your choice of yarn, this self-shaping triangular shawl pattern can be worked thick and warm for winter or delicate and lacy for a summer evening.

Worked from neck edge to tip, the width and finished size is fully customisable.

The pattern can be easily modified, to make an unusual scarf, by starting with a longer length and working approximately 7” (17.5cm) of pattern.

Materials: Can be worked with any yarn and an appropriate sized hook. Quantities vary.

The teal shawl in the pictures measures 60” wide (unstretched) and used ~1000m of Hayfield Bonus Aran weight (with 20% wool) and a 5.50mm hook.

IMG_4052-1

This pattern is for a crochet coverlet and hat set – ideal for photo shoots or as a novelty baby shower gift.

Two hexagon motifs are included for boy/girl options.  That said, there is absolutely no reason why the versions can’t be interchanged, mixed about and used together to make a unisex coverlet…I mean, boys look good in flowers too, don’t they ;)

The crochet coverlet is made up of 7 hexagons and measures approximately 33cm (13”) at the widest part.

The hat has a 35cm (14”) head circumference.

Materials – 100g (300m) DK (8-ply) yarn for both hat and coverlet – colour changes are optional

Tools – 3.50mm hook
