Handmade Blankets Everywhere

It’s been a busy month for blanket making.  I don’t know about you but I just love handmade blankets and these are no exception.

This Blanket Collection Pattern brings together the blocks featured in “All My Heart”, “Owl My Love” and “Snuggle-in-Swans” blankets.

Owl My Love

The patterns will enable you to work a sweet little baby blanket, in colours to suit a boy or a girl, using you’re your chosen combination of motifs – heart, owl or swan.

Snuggle In Swans

When worked, in DK yarn, the finished size of each pattern block is 18 x 18cm (7 x 7in); the join and border adds approximately 2.5cm (1in) to the overall size.

All My Heart
When worked in Aran/WW yarn, the finished size of each pattern block is 20 x 20cm (8 x 8in); the join and border adds approximately 5cm (2in) to the size.

As a reference, 6 blocks joined as in the example (3 patterned and 3 plain), will require 200g (400m) of main colour and 150g (300m) of contrasting colour.  Finished size in DK is approximately 60 x 42.5cm (24 x 17in) and in Aran/WW is 65 x 48cm (26 x 19in).

You will need chosen yarn, an appropriately sized hook, some oddments of black, white and a contrasting colour for eyes and beak (optional) and a needle for neatening ends.

Other yarns will work but, finished dimensions will vary.

You should aim for a gauge where 10 rows over 10sts (UK dc) produces a square.  Variations in this will produce larger or smaller squares and, in some cases, you will get a rectangular shape.  Providing the change is not too great, the finished look of the blanket will not be affected.

Crochet Slippers with Cuff and Tie

If you’re looking for a quick make for a new baby, baby shower, last-minute gift, these sweet little crochet slippers with cuff and tie, could be the perfect pattern for you.

With squishy soft, double soles, these cute little crochet slippers measuring 3½” (9cm) long and 2” (5cm) wide will fit babies in the 0-3 month age range.

You will need 140m of DK (8ply) yarn in colours as desired, 3.50mm hook and a stitch marker.  I used purple for the main colour and lilac for the contrasting colour.

Should you wish to make these a little larger, you can achieve a 4½” x 2½“ (11.5 x 6cm) sole by working in Aran or WW yarn.

Crochet Cowl

This pattern will produce a soft textured crochet cowl in a choice of 60 (90, 120, 150) cm circumference – small (medium, large, extra large).

Crochet Trellis Cowl

Instructions are given for changing the circumference if you want to custom size it.

The cowl in the example is the large version worked to a depth of 13cm (5in). It was worked in 110g (200m) Aran yarn with a 5.50mm hook.

You will need up to 400m of your chosen yarn (for the largest size), an appropriately sized hook and a needle for neatening ends.

Crochet Half Circle Rug

This pattern gives you instructions to make a crochet half circle rug, with any yarn, to any size.

Half Circle Ribbed Web Rug

The shape makes this rug perfect for placing inside the front door, in front of the sink or at the side of the bath.

Materials

• Any yarn will work but, the thicker the better!
• A hook (appropriately sized for chosen yarn)
• A needle for neatening ends.

Gauge is not important, as long as you are producing nice stitches that aren’t too loose.

Two 200m skeins of Worsted Weight or Aran yarn, held double, with an 8.00mm hook will produce a mat with a 25” (62” cm) diameter.

Crochet Elf Slippers with Curled Toes

Crochet elf slippers pattern now available here.

Elf Slippers Curled Toe

These novelty slippers, with curled toes, can be worked in a variety of yarns (4ply, DK, Aran, WW, light chunky), to any size using a few simple measurements.

A. Around the foot, at the widest part, generally just behind the toes.
B. The distance from measurement A to the heel.
C. The distance from measurement A to the toe.

An illustration is provided to help you take these measurements.

Basic stitches are used and pictures are included throughout.

Change colours for pixies, witches or jesters!!!

Quantities vary with chosen size or yarn. As a guide, a pair of adult sized slippers will use less than 300m. You will also need some contrasting colour for the trim.

It is preferable to work with a hook that produces neat (tighter) stitches not loose ones and I have given a suggested gauge of 16sts and 9 rows to 4” in DK yarn working in UK trebles.

Ultimately, you will need: the measurements above, your chosen yarn, an appropriately sized hook, two stitch markers and a wool needle for neatening ends. Embellishments like pom-poms or bells are optional.
