Crochet Curling Leaves Candlewick Blanket

Following on from the release of my shawl last week, I’m happy to say that Curling Leaves Candlewick Blanket is now tested and published too :)

Crochet Blanket

Depending on your choice of yarn, this blanket can be worked thick and warm for winter or delicate and lacy for a summer evening.

Finish length and width are fully customisable.

Materials:  Can be worked with any yarn and an appropriate sized hook. Quantities vary. As a guideline, a 20×20” (50x50cm) blanket in Aran/worsted weight) yarn will take approximately 500m.

The white one with blue edging was worked in 300g (450y/411m) of Hayfield Bonus chunky yarn with a 7.00mm hook. Small amount of blue used for edging but I didn’t record exact amount.

IRibbed Chunky Tassel Hat Crochet

In smaller size, it makes a great photo prop.  But, sizes newborn to adult available so there’s no reason why you can’t treat yourself to a snuggly warm crochet hat this Winter.

Lots of relief work gives this hat its beautiful, soft texture and makes it incredibly stretchy, squishy and comfortable.

The tassels may be omitted, replaced with pom-poms, or worked smaller for variety.  But, for photo props, I’m sure you’ll agree, the over-the-top tassels are super cute :)

Materials: 50-150g (150-450m) DK (8-ply) yarn depending on size option. Can be worked in a different yarn with appropriate hook….instructions for making adjustments are included.

Crochet Peapod Photo Prop Set

Crochet Peapod

Although specifically designed for twins, this peapod photo prop is a cute, novelty addition to any photographer’s repertoire and can be worked to make single, (or multiple baby), peapods.

Each pod is worked top down with no additional seaming required. Some stitching is required for attaching stalk, leaves and tendrils.

Designed to fit newborn babies, each pod measures 75cm (25½”) long with a centre-front opening. For best fit, baby should be positioned with their head near the top of the opening.

The matching ‘little pea’ hats have a 36cm (14”) head circumference and shaped ear flaps. They should be worn with the widest slope framing the face and the narrow slope to the nape of the neck.

If the model is at the smaller end of the age range, the brim can be turned up.

Note: This item is not suitable for sleeping in and its use should be supervised at all times.

Materials: 150g double knit (8-ply) yarn in dark green, 50g double knit (8-ply) yarn in light green per single hat and pod set.

Tools: 3.50mm hook.

UK fdc – US fsc – Foundation Chain

UK Foundation Chain – double crochet (fdc)

US Foundation Chain – single crochet (fsc)

A chain-less foundation, such as foundation double crochet, is an alternative to creating a foundation chain and then working your first row of stitches into this chain.

Using this technique you create both your chain and your first row of stitches at the same time.

There are some advantages to this method:

  1. It is quicker to work
  2. No more struggling to get the hook into your chains
  3. The edge can look neater than a tradition chain edge (except ones where you work in the lower back bump to achieve a neater edge)
  4. It is sized similarly to a regular row.
  5. Your gauge is likely to be more in keeping with your normal working gauge
  6. It has a little more elasticity than a chain and traditional first row.

Be aware, that number 3 might be a downside if you don’t want that stretch ;)
